Remember the Peugeot 205 CTI convertible I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ? I just broke the rear torsion beam axle... while it’s being !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! as we speak. I didn’t even know this was possible. This is going to be expensive. Goodbye profit, hello loss.

I brought it to a shop I trust. They’re not cheap, but they know what they’re doing, use their heads and use decent used parts when needed. Luckily there are still lots of 205 junkers available, sadly my 205 is lowered and the shop guy told me he needs an axle from a lowered car. I have no clue. I suggested they use a regular axle and replace the front springs with regular ones instead, to jack it up to a normal ride hight with parts that are available on every junk yard.

Thoughts?

For comparison, my GTI and CTI. The GTI has the stock ride hight. The CTI axle wasn’t broken here.

Yes, go the cheapest route, unless there happens to be a lowered one in a yard, which I imagine is unlikely. There really isn't that much difference between the two ride heights to be honest with you.

Raising it to stock will be easier, and probably more desirable.

It was last Sunday. It had rained and it was still drizzling. While on a roundabout I was driving behind a VW Up, proving I wasn’t speeding. However, for some reason I lost traction at the rear wheels and the car began to spin. I corrected and the spin never got further than about 45 degrees. I did overcorrect somewhat and went off the road for a fraction of a second with the right side of the car. I heard a loud noise. I’m guessing this is when it happened, as it wasn’t broken a week ago. I did drive it home 200km after that. My guess is that it was severely worn before and this was just the final nail. The rear suspension makes lots of noises now, even when you get in and the car isn’t running.

This is the exact spot where it happened. I don’t see anything that could’ve caused the loud noise. I did hear one loud noise and not two, meaning I didn’t run over something with both right wheels.

Wow, that’s unusual but it sounds like that could have gone much worse. I’d hate to hear that you ended up in the canal.
